Fold Qingguo Alley

Qingguo Alley is a kinetic installation that would change its state from traditional architectural shapes into modern building shapes. When Qingguo Alley is folded, its original outline would form 2 modern skyscrapers.

Qingguo Alley is a historical alley in my hometown, Changzhou. Like many small cities, the development of Changzhou comes at the cost of its historical architecture. Old buildings are torn down, and the remaining ones find themselves nestled among towering skyscrapers. The city wears a hard shell, and Qingguo Alley is nestled in the folds of this shell. Though Qingguo is a traditional alley, it is gradually being squeezed by an irresistible environmental force.

This piece was shown in the 2023 International Kinetic Biennale and LMCC open studio
